I really like the art here, it looks so cool I've never really gotten into the Metal Gear series, but I always thought the characters looked pretty damn awesome, and I always thought that Snake was pretty cool, it's a series I'll probably get into at some point. Your drawing of Quiet is really awesome looking, so job well done
It's funny that internet is at arms about her outfit. I guess they haven't played other MGS games where the characters wear riddicilous suits and whatnot already. Liquid Snake and Vulcan Raven being topless in Alaskan winter for example.
I honestly don't understand it either. What really made me laugh though is when David Ellis (the content producer for 343i, the current guys doing Halo) complained about Quiet's design when 343i's version of Cortana is just as "bad" as Kojima's design for Quiet if not "worse". The whole stink over this is just ridiculous...I'm of the mind that the whole entire world has succumbed to Political Correctness Gone Mad, the things people get offended over today are just completely ridiculous and stupid >_>
Indeed....people are just way too sensitive these days, it feels like you can't even sneeze or do something as natural as breathing anymore without being accused of racism, sexism, or whatever else you can think of >_>
Same here, it'd be great if everyone could be treated equally, and it's something that society should strive for...but in all honesty and realistically speaking, I don't think it's something that will ever happen. Progress will be made in some areas, and some will never see progress, and others will lose progress, it sucks, but such is life, doesn't that people should stop trying, but it's something to keep in mind.
I definitely agree that people need to stop complaining about Quiet and other stuff like that....I mean, not even male characters escape from being unrealistically portrayed. I guess you could say I don't really see the problem because it's something that both genders get, and it's ultimately something that doesn't really matter. If people really want to be doing something to combat sexism or misogyny or racism or any other form of discrimination, they should be focusing on the stuff that actually has a real affect on people >_>
Yeah, I agree on your post. People should see what really matters and what doesn't. Besides, we haven't seen the game yet. We don't know what's the story behind her outfit. Kojima did say it does have a purpose.
So I think it's fairly early to judge.
Also, even with the most "sexist" outfits out there in video games. We see tons of female cosplayers going for them. It's kinda odd how people bash these characters and then we see women actualy wearing them. Heh. Doesn't mean some of these outfits are just plain stupid and should be changed. Like, let's say Supergirl's miniskirt. That's just plain dumb imo. And even then, cosplayers go for it. But this is fairly complicated subject, and I don't know if I got the guns to really dive into it. Because I might actualy say something that nullfies everything I have said before. Like being ok with Quiet's outfit and then saying Supergirl has a dumb one.
Exactly, it's one thing to have a character dressed like that just because, and another to have an actual reason or explanation for it. While I haven't actually played any of the Metal Gear series yet, I know that Kojima knows what he's doing. And it's definitely way too early to judge.
Not only that, I hear female gamers, or people quoting female gamers, saying quite often how they don't really care, or some who even like it. And as you pointed out, people dressing up in cosplay as these characters too. My view on all of this is that it's something subjective and with most of the stuff people complain about it, there's nothing inherently wrong with it. It's so complicated because in almost every case there is no right or wrong answer to be found...some things obviously go overboard (like DOA: Beachball comes to mind) and are pushing it imo, but even then I still don't really have a problem with it, enough of one that I probably wouldn't play it or necessarily enjoy it, but it's no reason to run out in the street and start waving torches and pitchforks around calling for developers' heads >_>
There's some speculation that she's related to a character from a previous game that had the ability to blend in with the environment through photosynthesis. In the trailer, there was a very small part in it that showed that she had this ability. (In MGS4 your character can lean up against surfaces that copied the texture, temperature, and look of the surface, so I can imagine her having the same ability, just with her skin since she's related to a previous character.... this is long-winded. Cheers!
